Hometown: Rexford, KS

Current City: Salina, KS

Education: BA, Music Performance, Kansas Wesleyan University

Job Title: Private Lessons Instructor at Applequist Percussion Studio in downtown Salina, Kansas.

Earliest musical memory:
Banging on pots and pans in my childhood kitchen, although I’m not sure how “musical” it was!

Best part of being a Salina Symphony musician:
Being in a group in which people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and walks of life can all come together and work towards the same goal: to express ourselves and to lift up others through music.

Most memorable performance with the Salina Symphony:
The “Celebrate America” concert in November 2012.  It was my first performance with the Salina Symphony as a freshman in college at Kansas Wesleyan University.  Through this concert, I experienced the sound of a live Symphony Orchestra for the first time in my life.

Favorite composers:
Leonard Bernstein!  His pieces always have interesting and challenging percussion parts and I enjoy his style.

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?
Lately I’ve been really into soundtracks from movies and musicals, and pop music.

How do you spend your free time?
Practicing, enjoying quality time with my husband, Gus, and our two puppies, Lilly and Lucy, and playing in Everyday Lights, a local Americana band.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Passing my love for music and percussion down to my private lesson’s students.
