Salina Symphony String Academy Teaching Artist – Salina, KS


Position: 
Violin/Viola Teaching Artist & Violin/Viola Orchestra Section Member

Classification:  Full-time (42 week contract)

~Full-time, August through mid-May (36 weeks)
~Part-time, June / July (6 weeks)

Schedule:  Schedule will vary depending on student schedules and school site hours.

Salary Range:  $42,000-45,000

JOB SUMMARY
The Salina Symphony String Academy Teaching Artist will teach private and group lessons in addition to assisting local public school orchestra programs and the Salina Youth Symphony Program. The Teaching Artist will play violin/viola as a section member of the Salina Symphony. (Principal position may be available based on audition).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach private and group lessons to beginning and intermediate violin and viola students.
  • Assist Salina public school orchestra teachers in their classrooms.
  • Assist the Salina Youth Symphony Program.
  • Perform as a section member of the Salina Symphony.
  • Hold students to high artistic standards, cultivating both their technical and ensemble skills.
  • Contribute ideas regarding program structure for program and student success.
  • Embrace Salina Symphony Youth Education Program’s mission, goals, and guiding principles.
  • Assist with marketing the program and seeking new students.
  • Perform administrative duties essential to running a private studio.
  • Attend required concerts, meetings, events and professional development sessions.
  • Maintain professional, prompt lines of communication with Salina Symphony team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in string performance or education, or high level of performance in violin/viola.
  • Passion for working with youth and desire to serve as a role model to students
  • Experience teaching beginner to intermediate level students
  • Knowledge of beginner to intermediate musical pedagogy and repertoire
  • Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively with the Salina Symphony team
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and excellent communication skills
  • Suzuki teacher training preferred
