The Salina Symphony’s 55th season opener will feature music by three masterful Russian composers. The orchestra will present works by Stravinsky and Shostakovich as well as the magnificent Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto featuring Itamar Zorman, winner of the 2010 King Award for Young Artists National Music Competition.




CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL    
December 18 – 7:00 p.m. & December 19 – 4:00 p.m.
  

Sure to put everyone in the holiday spirit, the Symphony’s annual Christmas Festival will feature song and dance from members of the Salina Chorale, Kansas Wesleyan University Chorale, Children’s Holiday Chorus and Peggy Simms’ Center for Theatre Arts Dancers. Fun for the whole family!

Join us as we welcome home the sons of Salina music legend and Symphony founder, Eric Stein. Edmund and Rudolph Stein will perform Brahms’ Double Concerto for violin and cello. The concert will also feature the Harry Potter Symphonic Suite, a medley of the endearing themes from the box office phenomenon.




VIENNA PRELUDE    
March 13 – 4:00 p.m.  

Fort Hays State University Faculty Piano Trio

Strauss:  Die Fledermaus Overture (1874)
Enescu:  Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 in A major, Op. 11 (1902)
Beethoven:  Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C major, Op. 56 (1803)

The Symphony will treat the audience to Viennese music with the Die Fledermaus Overture by Johan Strauss along with Beethoven’s Triple Concerto for violin, cello and piano featuring the Faculty Piano Trio from Fort Hays State University.




TRIBUTE TO MUSICAL THEATRE    
May 1 – 4:00 p.m.

Teri Johnson, Soprano
Patrick Greene, Tenor

Copland: Appalachian Spring (1944)
Selections from Phantom of the Opera, Gilbert & Sullivan and Mozart

The season finale will trace the history of musical theatre through the centuries.  Vocalists Teri Johnson and Patrick Greene will return to their hometown of Salina to perform love songs from Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of Penzance and The Magic Flute.

OPERA – HANSEL & GRETEL    
November 12 & 13 – 7:00 p.m.

The Salina Symphony and Kansas Wesleyan University will bring Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel to life on the Stiefel Theatre stage. The 6th annual fully staged opera production will showcase young talent from Kansas Wesleyan University and dancers from the Salina community.
