What should I wear?
We like to think that attending a Symphony performance is a special occasion; therefore, it is acceptable to dress up a bit. Today’s standards for business formal dress or business casual dress are both acceptable for concerts.
What is the seating policy?
The doors will open one hour prior to show time. We like to begin all concerts on time so please allow plenty of time to unload passengers, park and find your seats before the concert begins. You will find your row and seat number on the chair arm. Auditorium doors are closed when the program begins. If you do arrive late, please wait by the entry doors until the piece is finished and then quietly take your seat. If you must leave before the conclusion of a performance, we request that you only do so between program works in order not to disturb other patrons.
When is the ticket box office open?
Salina Symphony tickets are available at the Stiefel Theatre box office, 151 S. Santa Fe, Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. For an additional charge, tickets may also be ordered by phone at (785) 827-1998 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets will be mailed in advance of the performance date (if time permits) or held at the “will call” window where they may be picked up prior to the concert. The box office will open four hours preceding each performance. Mastercard, Visa and Discover are accepted.
What is the ticket return policy?
While we cannot offer refunds or exchanges, tickets can be returned as a tax-deductible contribution to the Salina Symphony. The Stiefel Theatre box office must receive returned tickets no later than two hours prior to the performance time printed on the ticket. A receipt for the contribution will be mailed.
What are the house rules?
Cellular phones, alarm watches and electronic pagers must be turned off before entering the concert hall. Acoustics of a concert hall are designed to carry the human voice. Please refrain from talking and whispering as this can be very distracting to performers and concertgoers. Smoking is not permitted inside the building. Food and beverages are not permitted in the auditorium.
Are children allowed to attend concerts?
Children who are interested in listening to the concert are most welcome. However, young children (under eight) may not be able to sit still long enough or quietly enough for a formal concert. Every person must have a seat (no children in arms or laps).
How long is a typical performance?
Program length varies, but a typical concert lasts approximately 90 minutes, including one intermission.
When do I clap?
Many works in classical music have three or more movements. Most often, a short pause falls between each of the movements. It has become customary over time not to clap between movements. To find out the number of movements in a piece, turn to the program page, where you will find each work listed and subdivided by movement. After the last movement, feel free to clap to your heart’s content!
Am I allowed to take pictures?
Please refrain from taking still photographs or video recordings during the performance as this can be distracting for the musicians and audience members around you.
Where are the restrooms?
Restrooms are located on the mezzanine level as well as the Watson Room.
